Re-establishment of the Greek Square in Alexandria and creation of Technology and Sustainable Development Centre of Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East

Project Targets:

The work with the contribution of the Greek population in Alexandria aims:

  • at presenting the architectural and historical character of the buildings in the Greek Square of Alexandria with the use of innovative technical solutions, leading to a sustainable development approach;
  • at creating added value in the building installations;
  • at enhancing regional collaboration;
  • at promoting the application of new materials, RES energy efficiency technologies in Egypt and in the wider region of Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East;
  • at increasing enterprises collaborations between Greece-Egypt-Africa-middle East in the sector of new and environmental friendly materials and in the sector of RES and energy efficiency technologies;
  • at enhancing local business and contributing this way to the local economy and;
  • at transferring the know-how and at contributing significantly in public participation.
Technical Object of the Project:
  • Re-establishmentof buildings of Salvagios Commercial School, Hostel "Manna" and Kitchen.
  • Application of materials, RES and energy efficiency technologies in one building.
  • Energy planning by incorporating innovative technologies in all building of the Greek Square in Alexandria.
  • Funding and organizing an Energy Centre
  • Activities of providing the relevant know-how and experiences. Action of public dissemination and participation.


Expected results from the technical object:

The program will lead to the use of RES and energy efficiency technologies and it will attract new investments to the sector, affecting significantly the corresponding enterprises. The result will be the reduction of energy expenses in the consumer’s level, the reduction of energy consumption and the imports of oil and the increase of employment. Moreover there will be taken environmental protection actions.
