The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) is the Greek national centre for Renewable Energy Sources (RES), Rational Use of Energy (RUE) and Energy Saving (ES). CRES was founded as the national co-ordination centre in its areas of activity by Law 2244/94 (Production of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources) and Law 2702/99.
CRES was founded in September 1987 by Presidential Decree 375/87. It is a public entity, supervised by the Ministry of Development, General Secretariat of Research and Technology, and has financial and administrative independence.
Its main goal is the promotion of RES/RUE/ES applications at a national and international level, as well as the support of related activities taking into consideration the environmental impacts, on energy supply and use.
The Centre is managed by a seven-member Board of Directors, which includes representatives from the General Secretariat of Research and Technology/Ministry of Development, the PPC (Public Power Corporation) and the Association of Greek Industries.
CRES has a scientific staff of more than 120 highly experienced and specialised scientists, and engineers. The organisational structure of CRES is made up of the following basic units:

Background: ZREU GmbH was founded in 1995 based on the experiences it has gained through its preceding work as Agency for Regional Development and Energy (“Zweckverband Regionale Entwicklung und Energie", ZrE) since 1983. It is an affiliate of the KEWOG mbH, an expanding medium-sized development and building corporation with municipal background.
Objectives: ZREU's main objectives are:
the efficient use of energy and resources;
the implementation of renewable energies on a broad basis;
the development and demonstration of new technologies for rational energy generation and use;
to facilitate the financing of projects using regional, federal and EU funds;
to actively influence technological progress and innovation.
