Project description:
The project refers to the development of a Greek wind turbine certification system by CRES. In general, the certification procedures includes specific rules for carrying out conformity evaluation of wind turbines with respect to specific standards and other technical requirements relating to safety, reliability, performance, testing and interaction with electrical power networks. In addition, the certification procedures confirm that the manufacturing process, component specifications, inspection and test procedures and corresponding documentation are in conformity with the design documentation.
According to the Greek Law, for the installation and operation of a wind park in Greece, an approval of the type certificate for wind turbines is required. CRES is by Law the Certifying authority for wind turbines in Greece. During its operation, CRES has participated in more than 500 European and National projects. Moreover CRES’s Wind Energy Department participates in the standardization work carried out by the Hellenic Organization for Standardization (ELOT), in the framework of European and International organizations working on certification procedures and standards to be followed nationwide. It is also involved in the activities of IEC TC-88, CLC/BTTF83-2, and their working groups.
The development of a wind turbine certification system is a highly complicated action, covering a wide range of activities from wind turbine technical analysis to the legislative framework of the certification system operation. In the first stage of development, the certification system is based on the IEC 61400-1 standard, “Wind Turbine Generator Systems – Part 1: Safety requirements”, whereas other national and European standards will be included.

• Registration and analysis of the existing wind turbine certification systems
• Creation of a National Commission for the wind turbine standards
• Study of the statutory, financial and technical framework of the wind turbine certification system
• Creation of technical support for the wind turbine certification
• Model application of certification system in Greece
• Publication of standards and documents of the certification system
