Project Description:
The photovoltaic (PV) sector currently is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. Nevertheless, in Europe considerable PV market deployment takes place only in a few EU Member States and mainly in Germany. The PV Policy Group project was created with the objective of stimulating political action throughout Europe towards the development of political-legal framework conditions in favour of PV. The project consortium consisted of energy agencies from eight European countries, the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) and WIP, and was co-funded by the Intelligent Energy Executive Agency (IEEA) of the European Commission.
The most important deliverables of this project were:
- Best Practice Report: Comprehensive study aiming at comparing, assessing and informing about the existing legal and political framework for the promotion of PV in 12 countries
- Joint European Position Paper and Action Plan: Concrete recommendations and own actions in the areas of regulatory frameworks, support schemes and monitoring systems.
- National Position Papers and Action Plans: Recommendations and actions in the abovementioned fields, elaborated for eight EU Member States by national groups of experts that were set up by the energy agencies (e.g. from CRES in Greece)
The results of the project are addressed to the European Commission, national and regional governments, European PV industry and interest groups. All the above deliverables are available for free at the project’s website www.pvpolicy.org.
