Project Description:
The main aim of the project was the creation of an Energy analysis lab in CRES, which would install the most appropriate energy planning software tools, and support Energy Planning and Energy analysis.
The models that are being used in the Energy Analysis Laboratory are:
• MARKAL :
MARKAL is a linear programming software tool, that calculates the optimum energy system in a long term horizon. The optimization criterion is the minimization of the total energy system cost, taking into account the constraints set by environment and energy policy issues.
• WASP3. :
WASP is a linear programming model, operating in a midterm time horizon, for the calculation of the optimum development of the electricity production system. The electricity demand is given exogenously.
• COST :
COST is modeling the operation of the electricity production system, and calculating the operating parameters (production cost etc.).
• UPLANG :
Optimization model for the Natural Gas network.
• COMPASS - MARKETMANAGER :
Demand Side Management analysis tools. Short to medium term analysis of energy efficiency option in the consumption sector.
• COGENMASTER :
Feasibility studies for cogeneration of heat and power projects.
• PSS/E :
Analysis of electricity transmission networks.
