Ioannis S. Agapitidis

Ioannis S. Agapitidis is a Civil Engineer (1982) holding an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering (University of Newcastle upon Tyne, 1983) and an MBA (Keele University, 1991). He worked at the European Commission (DG ENV, 1985) and then with EETAA-Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government with duties of studies’ elaboration and implementation of projects co-financed by the EU. He was Head of Department of Environment and Energy from 1991 to 1994 and Head of Department of Development from 1995 to 1998. In 1998 he joined the MOU-Management Organisation Unit of Development Programmes as Head of the Planning Department providing support on strategic planning, organizational matters and project management for organizations implementing programs and projects of the Community Support Framework. From July 2004 to August 2010 he was President and Managing Director of CRES – Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving. In this capacity presided (2004-2005) the Mediterranean Network of Energy Centres (MEDENER).

In April 2013 he undertook the duties of Chairman of the Board of HRO – Hellenic Recycling Organisation.He is a member of the sectoral council “Energy and Environment” under the National Research Council and of the Energy Committee of the Academy of Athens.

He has also served as President of Institute of Public and Local Administration (2007-2013) under the Hellenic Management Association and Vice Chairman of the Board of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (2004-2006). He speaks English, French and Italian.
