INTRACOM Group: "Strategic co-operation in the Balkans and Eastern Europe".

The fields of new technology and specially telecommunications and informatics constitute the "neural system of the economy" forming in parallel a fertile ground for strategic co-operations on a world-wide level. The European Union is moving towards the gradual deregulation of the telecommunications market, investing large sums for the development of a modern telecommunications infrastructure and preparing itself for the "Information Society".

Greece, being the only South-Eastern country of the E.U. can play a decisive role in the development of versatile economic relations in the Balkans, but also in the wider area of Eastern Europe. Within this framework the INTRACOM Group of Companies, a network of autonomous, flexilbe, highly specialized companies, is active in the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe.

According to a Financial Times (November 28, 1996) report "Greece has become too small a market for INTRACOM. The Athens-based telecoms equipment supplier, which last year installed a new communications system for the Kremlin, has ambitions to become a telecoms operator accross the Balkans".
